The eighth largest sporting venue in the world, Bristol Motor Speedway sits in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Tennessee and hosts two NASCAR Cup Series events each year. Opened in 1961, Bristol's capacity is just over 165,000 and has earned the nickname 'Thunder Valley.' One of the smallest tracks on the NASCAR schedule at just .53 miles, it provides some of the best views in the sport. The unique all concrete track and some of steepest banks in NASCAR help make Bristol one of USA Today’s top 5 race tracks. The Speedway has been featured twice on television, once in the Tom Cruise film “Days of Thunder” and again in the Pixar hit, Cars. The longest running races at Bristol Motor Speedway are the Food City 500 and the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race. Richard Petty is the most successful driver at Bristol with 26 top 5 finishes and 37 top ten finishes, but Darrell Waltrip has the most wins with 12. In addition to NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series facing events, Bristol Motor Speedway is home to the NHRA Mellow Yellow Drag Racing Series Thunder Valley Nationals.
