Bristol Motor Speedway, located in Bristol, TN is the home of the Bass Pro Shops Night Race and the Food City 500. Since opening in 1961, the .533 mile short track has become become home to one of the biggest NASCAR races of the year. Bristol Motor Speedway seats 160,000 and is the fourth largest sports venue in America.

History of the Bristol Night Race

The Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor speedway has been run each year since 1961. Originally known as the Volunteer 500, the Bristol Night Race is one of the most sought after NASCAR tickets during the season. The first race in 1961 was won by Jack Smith who was relieved part way through by driver Johnny Allen who brought the Pontiac across the finish line. Darrell Waltrip has driven Bristol better than any other driver, accumulating 7 wins at the night race between 1979 and 1992 including back to back to back titles in 1981, 1982, and 1983. Repeating as champion is no strange thing in the Bristol Night Race, back to back winners include: Joey Logano, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, David Pearson, Fred Lorenzon, and Cale Yarborough, in all 25 of the 44 Bristol Night Races have been won by a previous champion.
